The Comeback

Recently, these mattresses have began to make a successful comeback. They are considered to be very "retro" and hip, and any naughty connotations associated with a round bed seem to be a thing of the past. Round mattresses are popular with young and old. They are purchased today by those people who already own a round bed or those who really wanted one back in the Seventies. The revival of the round mattress is giving these people a chance to relive an enjoyable era in their lives. Replace the kids ruffled or theme curtains with tab topped curtains in a denim or canvas for a more adult look.

Bedding for you teen can be plain, or funky - whatever goes with the room. Depending on your teens taste, a neutral colored bed set with nicely textured fabrics like silks or a velvet duvet can add interest with out being too flashy. Or if you want to make the bed a focal point, how about an animal print set or something in bright colors like hot pink and orange?

Accents are where you add interest and give the room personality. Some fun accents include chairs shaped like a giant shoe, faux fur covered lamps in wild colors, bean bag chairs of all types, phones in all shapes and sizes, funky accent pillows, rugs and wall art.

Healthy Snacks - On The Cheap!

It happened again--yet another headline this week insinuating that only the wealthy can afford to eat healthy. This just drives me crazy! Obviously, some health foods are going to be more expensive then their unhealthy counterparts, but I resent when the media puts out these types of articles. It tends to put the idea in people's heads that they shouldn't even bother to try to eat healthy--it's just too expensive. So not true!!! and an extra! because I really mean this. Everyone can afford to eat healthy. All it takes is some creativity and a little research. Snacking is a great way to add wonderful nutrition to your day, and it doesn't need to be expensive. A bag of unhealthy chips most people eat in one or two servings is going to run you more than some very nutritious alternatives.

To prove my point, I've figured out the cost of 12 healthy snacks per serving. For almost all, I looked at my local grocery store without using coupons or looking for sales. Serving sizes were simply used from the packages. For the granola and nuts, it's much cheaper to find a store that offers these items in bulk. If your regular grocery store doesn't offer them, go to your local health food store to find grains and nuts in bulk bins.

What makes Tamarind village so special is its lovely site and exotic and luxurious appearance. It is built in Swahili style and has a series of arches, open-sided walkways with tantalizing water views, and open grill work walls in Moorish designs. All is in startling, sparkling white wash alive with the exuberance of bougainvillea spilling over balconies and peeping into corridors.

The complex is built along the side of a hill in six levels-balconies jut out at different heights, some shaded by thatch, others by log beams letting through slants of sunlight. Although this is a large, multi level building, the interest and variety in the layout and design make each apartment personal; and unique. There is a clean simplicity, an exotic elegance about the place.

The apartments vary in size, but all have master bedrooms, with bathrooms ensuite. There are telephones and air conditioning. Since they are privately owned, there are different styles of décor, and some are much nicer than others. Numbers 41, 45, 54 and # 65 are well appointed and comfortable. Each apartment has a terrace and some have lovely views down across the water. A few have private outdoor Jacuzzi

The landscaping and swimming pool deserve special mention. Paths wander down through flowering rock gardens and lawns, creepers climb up walls and drape over balconies. The large contoured pool is glorious, with a swim up bar, unheated Jacuzzi and great views over the harbour. Next to the pool under a thatch roof is the sit-up Lido bar with a selection of snacks and light dishes.

Severin Sea Lodge- Mombasa Kenya

This is one of the larger hotels on Bamburi beach. It has a rambling layout and some unique features such as a dhow restaurant moored on a little stream, and a conference center which resembles an Islamic mosque. There are two swimming pools and a high thatched rondavel bar which sports game trophies.

The rooms are in two or three story white washed bungalows with thatched roofs. The rooms are better than average-all with mini-bar, telephone and air conditioning. The 90 new comfort rooms, each with one double and one single bed, have Lamu-style furniture and nice bathrooms with double sink and hairdryer. Most rooms are set back from the sea, but standard rooms 400 and 402, and comfort rooms 177 and 178 have good ocean views. There is a busy entertainment program from water polo to jazz bands.
